Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Ruth Thompson

Teaching is a family tradition for me.  I come from a long line of educators.  This is the beginning of my 21sth year of teaching in the Redlands Unified School District.  I received my Bachelor's Degree from UC Riverside and my teaching credential from the University of Redlands.  I also have a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University.  My teaching career started with student teaching at Clement Middle School (6th grade) and North Verdemont Elementary School (First Grade).  I was then hired to teach 6th grade math and science at Clement Middle School.  I moved over to Beattie Middle School when it opened and continued teaching science and math.  I also spent several summers teaching 6th grade and 8th grade math intervention.  I eventually decided to move down to elementary school and came to Smiley to teach 4th grade.  Teaching 4th grade was a lot of fun and I stuck with that for another 5 years.  A spot in first grade opened up and I jumped on it and taught 1st grade for 8 years.  I moved to 5th grade 3 years ago and I am enjoying this opportunity to explore new concepts with Smiley's big kids on campus.

It is such a privilege to teach here at Smiley!
