    Welcome Back

    Dear Mariposa Monarch Parents,

This new school year is coming quickly and with it, the reality of distance learning.  I know this is not how anyone ever envisioned beginning a school year, but I do want to let each and every parent know that our Mariposa staff will be more than ready.  Everyone has been working hard to be prepared for August 13th and each day after to provide the best possible instruction during this challenging time.  To help families be comfortable with this new experience I have some important information for the beginning of the school year.

One of the first things I wanted to let you know is that our website is a great resource for information, especially during these “virtual” times. Currently, you can find the latest school newsletter, The Butterfly Facts; the latest Weekly Bulletin; forms you might need such as Chromebook opt out forms, technology policy forms and more.  Please make it a habit to check the Mariposa web site often.

    Student Grab and Go

    • We have set up a “Grab and Go” for students to get vital items for distance learning. The way a “Grab and Go” works is that each family will drive through the Mariposa parking lot during the time indicated.  Mariposa staff will place the items each student needs into the trunk of the car.  This is a “no contact” strategy, but underneath those masks please know we are smiling and very, very happy to see you! The items provided will be a Chromebook for each student, grade level textbooks, and other supplies your child’s teacher felt were needed to optimize instruction.

    • All students are able to get a Chromebook if needed.  However, you DO have the opportunity to OPT OUT if you do not want a device from Mariposa. If you want to save a little time, please feel free to fill out and print out an “Opt out” form.

For Tech Opt Out Form Click Here

Formulario de tecnología en español aquí

We will have copies of the Opt Out Forms available at the "Grab and Go" activity as well.

The Grab and Go schedule is as follows:

    Tuesday, August 11th

    Wednesday, August 12th

    5th Grade: 9:00 - 10:30 A.M.

    2nd Grade: 9:00 - 10:30 A.M.

    4th Grade: 11:00 A.M. - 12:30 P.M.

    1st Grade: 11:00 A.M. - 12:30 P.M.

    3rd Grade: 1:00 - 2:30 P.M.

    TK/K: 1:00 - 2:30 P.M.

*If you have multiple students, you will be able to pick up ALL your students items         at the designated time of your OLDEST child.

    • If you cannot make it during the scheduled pick-up time for your child, please contact Mariposa and we can make alternate arrangements.

    Your Child’s Teacher

You will find out your child's teacher through your parent portal account, it will NOT be posted at Mariposa.  You will be able to login to your parent portal and see your child's teacher on the afternoon of Monday, August 10th.

    Daily Learning Schedule

1st - 5th grade and all day Kinder: Students' school day will begin each morning at 8:00 A.M. and go until approximately 1:30 or 1:40 P.M. based on the grade level.  Each grade level will present parents with their specific schedules and it will be a combination of live synchronous learning and asynchronous learning through each day.

For Half day TK and K: Please see the provided schedule from your teacher for specific times throughout the school day.

    Virtual Back to School Night

This year’s back to school night will be held on Wednesday, August 12th via Zoom or Google Meets.  There will be two sessions by each teacher in case you have multiple students.

    Session 1: 6:00 - 6:40

    Session 2: 6:45 - 7:25

    • Please attend one of the sessions to get vital information pertinent to distance learning and interact with your child's teacher.  However, please respect the times of these sessions and if you have additional questions, you can always get in touch with your child's teacher during office hours to ask additional questions.

    • Each Mariposa teacher will send information and the link to their back to school night virtual room through Aeries Communications prior to August 12th.

*Please note that back to school night is for parents, not students.  Students will have the opportunity to meet their teacher on the 13th.

As always, attendance is extremely important for all students.  During this time of distance learning it is even more vital that students are ready for school and be an active participant in the digital learning environment on a daily basis.  Attendance will be taken DAILY.  IF your child is absent from school any day please communicate with the Mariposa office to let us know.

    1st Day of School Success

Please try to be present and help your child log in to their Chromebook at 8:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 13th to have a successful first day of school.  If you have any difficulties with logging in please contact your child's teacher or the Mariposa office for assistance.

I understand this is a lot of information, however I am excited to start the school year on a positive note with students, families, and Mariposa staff working together for the success of all our students!

    Thank you,

    Mr. Hackney

    School Vision and Mission

Mariposa Elementary School's staff, with excellent support and involvement of our parents and community, is committed to emphasizing academic and social achievement at the highest levels of excellence and to meeting the unique needs of all students with standards-based academics along with visual and    performing-arts oriented programs.

Though it is a rigorous academic environment, there is a profound sense of student happiness on the campus.  The children are animated in their play, and engaged in their lessons. Mariposa is an educational environment supported by caring adults and a belief system that supports both the academic growth and the emotional needs of all children. Students are guided by our long tradition of the Five Keys to Success; responsibility, organization, flexible thinking, pride, and contribution. These essential elements of knowledge and character provide a basis for sound educational practices and also serve as character education. The collective result is a responsible and capable student body, preparing for a global society.  Branching out, the Visual and Performing Arts (music, art and movement) are integrated into the daily curriculum. The day begins with music from the Composer of the Month over the outdoor speakers. Students perform in weekly Flag Ceremony assemblies, the school chorus, band, and classroom plays. Hands-on experience and discovery can be seen in our gardens.  We work on physical strength through our twice weekly Running Club.  Mariposa is a safe nurturing environment where all students can find variety of opportunities for learning, building confidence, and developing responsibility.

  • Welcome to Mariposa Elementary School!

    August 7, 2019

    Dear Mariposa Elementary School Families,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Mariposa Elementary School.  I am excited and honored to continue to be a part of the Mariposa community.  I look forward to working hard this year to continue to build strong relationships with new and existing students and families. If you ever have a concern about something or a question regarding a specific situation or procedure, please do not hesitate to contact me.

This is an extremely busy school with many events for students to enhance their educational experience so I hope you will join us in participating in or volunteering for any events that you are able to throughout the year.  Our PTA will welcome any help with events or activities.  Any amount of time given, whether big or small will help our school community and PTA, and it will be special for your child as well.

Mariposa is a school with a great deal to be proud of. I am excited for all the events throughout the school year that will help all students make a community connection and enhance the work they are doing within the classroom.  I look forward to continuing the support all our students through a strong home, school and community partnership.
