  • Hello, Cope families and students!

Welcome to Cope Middle School! Cope is an amazing school with wonderful teachers and staff who are dedicated to the academic achievement and positive social development of all students. On April 22, 1957, 457 seventh and eighth grade students met for the first time on the Cope Junior High campus.  Cope established the Eagle as the school mascot and school colors were white and gold. The Cope campus continued to grow within the first five years and student enrollment had doubled and new buildings were added. In 1993, Cope transitioned from a junior high to a middle school and students voted to change the school colors to green and blue.  In 2010, the school colors were changed back to the original white and gold. Today, Cope serves approximately 1390 sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students.  Since then, Cope has celebrated over 60 years of traditions and successes.  Some of Cope's accolades include:

    • 2017 California Gold Ribbon School; Special recognition for our Honors English, Math, and Science programs.
    • 2014, 2015, 2016 Honor Roll School
    • #1 Ranked Middle School in San Bernardino County (2017 by
    • 1996, 2001 California Distinguished School

Cope offers a wide range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities.  Cope is proud to offer educational opportunities in general education, special education, EL program support, and GATE and Honors courses.  Cope supports the student school culture by offering extra-curricular opportunities, such as: ASB student government/leadership, Journalism, Yearbook, Marching Band, Orchestra, Choir, Visual Art, Theater Arts, Video Production, Garden Club, Run Club, Breakfast Bible Club, CJSF, Crossage Tutoring, and has partnered with Destination Imagination. I encourage parents and students to get involved in school and take advantage of all the great things Cope has to offer.

We are very fortunate to have an active and resourceful PTSA that cares about Cope. Over the years, PTSA has sponsored school-wide fundraisers and grade level activities, provided support at school-wide and student social events, and have continually supported our School-Wide Goals and Single Plan for Student Achievement. The Eagle Express, is created by PTSA and is just one example of how they support Cope by sharing valuable information about upcoming and current events.

Other ways to stay connected to Cope are by joining me on Twitter @CopePrincipal, visiting our school website or by following me on Instagram at CopeMS. I’ll share pictures and messages of all the great things happening at Cope and important reminders. I know that many of our students are involved with outside activities and have earned special achievements and recognitions, please feel free to share your student’s success by sending me an email! Our teachers and staff enjoy hearing all about student achievements and we know many of them are doing amazing things!

Please encourage your student to browse through this website so they can familiarize themselves with our school.  Welcome to the Cope family!

Principal's Corner

  • Lisa Bruich, Principal

I have been a proud member of the RUSD community for over 15 years.  I worked at Moore Middle School and Redlands East Valley High School prior to my years at Cope. I have taught English grades 8-12, served as a REVHS Assistant Principal, Director of Student Activities, and even as cheerleading coach! I attended the University of Redlands where I earned my MA in Education: Counseling and my BA in English from Cal State Fullerton. I have a wonderful husband, two amazing daughters, and two huggable dogs.  Like many parents, I consider myself the family "Uber driver" getting my kids to their activities and running errands after school and on the weekends. I enjoy relaxing with a book and I love spending time with my family and friends.  I am proud and honored to serve Cope as the principal and to be part of the RUSD family.
