Alyssa Cavanaugh

Alyssa Cavanaugh graduated with high honors from CSUSB with a B.A. in Human Development and a concentration in Child Development.  She continued her graduate studies at CSUSB and graduated in 2006 with a M.S. in Counseling and Guidance and a P.P.S credential in School Counseling.  She began working at Redlands Unified as a school counselor in 2007 with the RISE program, serving students in Kindergarten through 12th grades.  When Redlands eAcademy opened, she served as the school counselor for both Redlands eAcademy and the RISE program.  Alyssa joined the elementary school counseling team in 2017 and is currently the school counselor at McKinley Elementary School.  Alyssa holds seven specialist certifications from the American School Counseling Association (Mental Health, Students with Special Needs, Bullying Prevention, Trauma and Crisis Management, Closing the Achievement Gap, Grief and Loss, and Anxiety and Stress Management).  Alyssa values equity and believes in the personal dignity and value of each student and family that she serves.  She believes that all students should have access to a high-quality education and she is committed to helping all students reach their full academic, social, and emotional potential.

Carolyn Cullen

Carolyn Cullen is happy to be the school counselor at Kimberly, where she has worked for the past two years.  Prior to working at Kimberly, she was an elementary counselor at both Mission and Smiley, and a college counselor at Mt. San Jacinto college.  She taught in the Redlands Unified School District for seven years as an English teacher and WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Coordinator. She attended the University of Redlands for all of her postsecondary education, graduating with a B.A. in Liberal Studies, teaching credentials, M.A. in Education: Counseling, and P.P.S. counseling credential.  She loves supporting students, teachers, and families and it is her goal to help every child learn the social-emotional skills needed to overcome challenges and live their happiest and most fulfilling life.  You can access her website and contact information here: biy.ly/kimcounsel

Cristina Schessler

Cristina Schessler is the school counselor at Arroyo Verde Elementary School. She is a Redlands gal, graduating from Kingsbury Elementary School, Moore Middle School, and finally Redlands High School in 2011. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014 from UC Davis in Linguistics before teaching English abroad in China, South Korea, and Mexico. She received her Master’s in School Counseling and PPS credential in 2019 from the University of Redlands. Between classes and fieldwork during graduate school, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Redlands school district, as well as team lead for the Rochford College Access Program. She is very excited to be part of the team at Arroyo Verde and looks forward to continue supporting the families, students, and staff there.

Deb Dennis

Deb Dennis graduated from California Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She was a teacher for many years. Deb received her PPS counseling credential in 2010 from National University. While leaving the classroom was difficult, she was offered an opportunity to become an elementary counselor in 2016. Since then, she has spent time at several schools but is now full time at Kingsbury Elementary.

Genesis Guardado

Genesis Guardado is a first-generation college student and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, Riverside. She proceeded to attend California State University, San Bernardino, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling along with her LPCC and PPS credential. Genesis was recognized as CSUSB’s Outstanding Graduate Student of the year for the College of Education. She worked in Etiwanda School District for three years as an instructional aide and substitute teacher. Genesis transitioned to working as an Academic Advisor at San Bernardino High School for GEAR UP, a program aimed at helping students reach higher education. She worked in collaboration with counselors to help these students overcome obstacles and earn their high school diplomas, learning financial literacy, and getting into college. Genesis is currently serving on the RUSD Counseling Leadership Team, working closely with Redlands Coordinated Supports and Services, while working as the full-time counselor at Lugonia Elementary School, in Redlands. She is excited to build a partnership with teachers, parents, students, administrators, and members of the community to advocate for a positive school climate, equipping students with the skills necessary to confront the challenges of our changing world.

Jackie Land

Jackie Land received her Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, San Bernardino, and then attended the University of Redlands’ Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program. She taught at Ridgeview Elementary School in the Yucaipa/Calimesa Joint Unified School District for seven years, and earned her Master’s degree in Educational Counseling and PPS credential from the University of Redlands. Jackie counseled students and educated families at Franklin Elementary, in Redlands, for 15 years. Jackie worked as a counselor at the Redlands Adult School, helping adults overcome obstacles and earn their high school diplomas. Jackie held the position of Lead Counselor, where she supported and mentored Elementary Counselors across RUSD. She is currently serving on the RUSD Counseling Leadership Team, working closely with Redlands Coordinated Supports and Services, while working as the full-time counselor at Mariposa Elementary School, in Redlands. It’s Jackie’s passion and purpose to give hope and encouragement to all those in her charge. She sees her position as a gift and is honored to be a molder and shaper of dreams.

Jen Yaghoubian

Jen Yaghoubian received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at University of California, Santa Cruz. She proceeded to earn a Master’s Degree in Special Education and a Multiple Subject Credential and Mild-Moderate Education Specialist Credential from San Francisco State University. She earned a Master’s Degree in School Counseling and a PPS Credential at Chapman University. Ms. Yaghoubian also holds a Moderate – Severe Educational Specialist and Tier 1 Administrative Services credentials. She was a special education teacher and a counselor in the San Francisco Bay Area for 11 years before moving to Southern California. She joined Redlands Unified School District and taught in what is now called the Behavior Intervention Program. She has worn many hats with RUSD, including ERMHS (Educationally Related Mental Health Services) Counselor, lead on the District Crisis Response Team, Teacher on Assignment, Administrator Designee for all elementary speech only IEPS, Special Services Coordinator and Academic Case Carrier. Ms Yaghoubian is thrilled to join the team at Mentone Elementary School. She is excited to connect with and support students at the elementary level with hopes to provide a safe environment to build a foundation that will empower and motivate these students to be resilient to any challenges they may face and make all their hopes and dreams come true.

Lori Regalado

Lori Regalado attended Crafton Hills College where she received a certificate in Early Childhood Education. She then transferred to the University of Redlands where she graduated with a degree in Liberal Studies. Lori continued her studies at the University of Redlands obtaining a master’s degree and PPS Credential. Lori began her career with Redlands Unified School District at Bryn Mawr Elementary working in an intervention program for primary students. She then moved on to Victoria to begin working in the Early Childhood Education Program. She continued her Early Childhood work at Mentone Elementary where she became the Child Development Program Lead. While at Mentone, Lori was able to not only work with the early education preschool students, but she was also able work with Mentone families providing them with different resources and assisting them when they came to her in times of need. Throughout the years working with families and students, Lori always knew elementary counseling was the ultimate career goal. Working in the town she grew up in, as an Elementary School Counselor is a dream come true. I have the great fortune tot currently work at Highland Grove Elementary.

Michelle Blomquist

Michelle Blomquist attended Crafton Hills College where she graduated with her Associates of Science degree. She then moved to San Luis Obispo to attend Cal Poly SLO where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree and earned her teaching credential. Michelle went on to receive her Masters and PPS credential from the University of Redlands. Michelle was hired as an elementary school teacher at Crafton Elementary School and later moved to Judson & Brown Elementary where she was part of the inaugural teaching staff. After twenty-five years in the classroom, Michelle has moved into Counseling and is a member of the Elementary Counselor Program.

Nancy Marin

Nancy Marin is honored to serve Victoria Elementary and its community as she embarks on her 4th year with RUSD. She has a B.A. in Sociology from the University of San Diego, and a master's degree from USC in Marriage and Family Therapy. Nancy believes that building positive relationships and creating a safe space for all students, staff, and families is key to the counselor’s role. She also believes it is vital that every student feel seen and heard. She strives to ensure every student knows that there are no bounds to the amazing things they are capable of. The future is bright.

Nikki Gonzales

Nikki Gonzales  attended Crafton Hills College and transferred to Cal Poly Pomona, where she graduated with a BA in Psychology. After graduating, Nikki began working  as a substitute teacher for the Redlands Unified School District and was attracted to a teaching career. She attended the University of Redlands where she received  her Multiple Subject Teaching credential. She began working at Clement Middle school, where she once attended as a student, where she  taught seventh grade Social Studies and then sixth grade.  Nikki entered the Masters of Art,  Education Counseling Program at the University of Redlands and graduated with her Master’s and a PPS Credential.  In becoming an Elementary Counselor, Nikki has worked at Crafton, Lugonia, another school she was a student at,  and is currently the counselor at Mission. Becoming an Elementary Counselor, Nikki feels she can connect with kids, families and the community in which she grew up in. She loves that she is making a positive impact in the lives of students and their families with whom she works.

Summer Baker

Summer Baker is a third generation Redlands community member, who attended Redlands Unified School District as a student. Summer now serves as the School Counselor at Smiley Elementary and is on the RUSD Counseling Leadership Team. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of Redlands as a first generation college student and student-athlete. Summer went on to receive her Master of Arts degree in Education: School Counseling and PPS Credential from the University of Redlands. During graduate school she completed her internship hours for the Academic Case Carrier program in RUSD, and also worked as the Fieldwork Coordinator for the University of Redlands, School of Education. Summer is passionate about helping students and families. She strives to be a counselor who provides a safe, supportive, and welcoming educational environment for all. Summer Garcia

My name is Summer Garcia, and I am originally from Loma Linda, California. I attended Victoria Elementary School and graduated from Orangewood High School. I have been a school counselor for nearly three years and a teacher with Redlands Unified for over thirteen years. I completed my undergrad at SBVC and the University of Redlands where I also obtained a master's degree in School Counseling. I am a mother, wife, sister, daughter, and auntie. Some of my hobbies include spending time with family, watching movies, cooking, and taking my two dogs to the dog park. I have recently taken up a love for walking. 
 
Working with students has always been something I have gravitated to. I love helping students see their full potential, build confidence, and practice empathy. As a counselor, I love that I get to help families gain access to resources and advocate for students on a larger scale. Being a school counselor has been a lifelong dream of mine and I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with you little Blue Jay at Bryn Mawr Elementary!

Tricia Vansant

Tricia Vansant is honored to be the counselor at Crafton Elementary. She began her education at Loyola-Marymount University as a student-athlete on the women’s basketball team.  She graduated in 1991 with a degree in Liberal Studies, and completed the Teaching Credential program in 1992. Then she graduated from the University of Redlands in 1998 with a Master of Arts degree in School Counseling, as well as receiving her PPS credential.  She taught her very first class in 1993 in Los Angeles. She moved on to Fontana Unified where she taught sixth, seventh, and eighth grades for eleven years.  When she came to Redlands she taught third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades at Franklin Elementary, Judson & Brown Elementary, and Cope Middle School.  After spending 24 years in the classroom, she decided that she wanted to be more of a support for  younger students.  This year marks her fourth as being a counselor at Crafton.  Tricia has since earned two specialist certifications in Cultural Competency, and Anxiety from the American School Counseling Association.  Tricia believes in focusing on the whole child (academics and social emotional), values equity, and believes that every human being has their own story.  It’s her mission to support children and families with anything and everything they need to help them live their best lives.
