Interdistrict Transfer Process

  • Students who reside outside the Redlands Unified School District boundaries may apply for enrollment in the Redlands Unified School District. Applications for Interdistrict Attendance Permit forms are available from the student’s resident school district and require approval from the resident school district prior to submitting the request to the Redlands Unified School District.  When submitting the interdistrict transfer form, to the Redlands Unified School District, records pertaining to grades, attendance and behavior will be required. See below for conditions of approval. Pursuant to Education Code 46600, a signed agreement between your resident school district and Redlands Unified School District may be required in order to grant approval of Interdistrict Attendance Permits. INTERDISTRICT OPEN APPLICATION PERIOD:
    MARCH 1,  2023 TO APRIL 15,  2023

Interdistrict Attendance Permits Received March 1 – April 15:

Interdistrict attendance permits are granted on a space-available basis. In the event the number of permits requested exceeds capacity at the school, approvals shall be determined by a lottery per student, not by family, from the eligible applicant pool. A waiting list shall then be established to indicate the order in which students may be accepted. Until a student’s request is approved he/she should attend his/her home school in their resident district. The District may consider intradistrict applications prior to accepting interdistrict applications. Students whose names are on the waiting list may not be notified of availability until after the start of school.

Interdistrict Attendance Permits Received After April 15:

Interdistrict attendance permits are granted on a space-available basis. In the event the number of permits requested exceeds capacity at the school, approvals shall be determined by a lottery, noted above. Therefore, applications received after April 15 are added to that waiting list in the order in which they are received in the event requests exceed capacity. Until a student’s request is approved he/she should attend his/her home school in their resident district. The District may consider intradistrict applications prior to accepting interdistrict applications. Students whose names are on the waiting list may not be notified of availability until after the start of school.

    Approved Interdistrict Attendance Permits:

If your student’s interdistrict attendance permit is approved, you will need to enroll your student within 10 days of receipt of their approval letter or their spot may no longer be available. The Enrollment Center is located at 7 West Delaware, Redlands, CA 92374 and open between the hours of 7:30 am and 3:30 pm for enrollment.

    Conditions for Approval:

    • Signed agreement with the District of Residence and the Redlands Unified School District.
    • Parent/guardian assumes responsibility for providing transportation.
    • Student must make satisfactory academic progress.  Satisfactory progress is defined as a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and credits equivalent to grade level being requested.  In addition, students entering their senior year must be on-track for graduation.
    • Student must maintain regular and punctual attendance.
    • Student must maintain proper conduct at school and at school-related functions and activities.

Transfers may be revoked if any of the above conditions are not met, or if any of the information in the transfer request application has been falsified.

Note:  When a student is granted an interdistrict transfer for the school requested, they will attend that school until they complete the highest grade level at that school as long as the conditions of approval listed above are met. (i.e. highest grade level at elementary is fifth (5th) grade and highest grade level at middle school is eighth (8th) grade.)  Upon completion of the highest grade level at your assigned school, you are automatically enrolled in a middle school or high school, whichever is the case, designated by the District, not based on the elementary school or middle school your student is currently attending.  If you wish to apply for a change of your student’s designated school, you will need to submit an intradistrict transfer request form for consideration at our Enrollment Center, located at 7 West Delaware Avenue, Redlands, CA 92374 between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  The intradistrict transfer application period is January 15 – February 15.  These transfers are granted on the basis of space availability, student attendance, behavior, and grades.

NOTICE:  Trying out for a team/squad prior to your transfer being approved or denied:
If a student has applied for a transfer and tries out for a team or program at the new school, it may be prior to their transfer being approved or denied to that new school.

If your student makes the team or program at the new school, it will have no bearing on the acceptance of the student transfer. Transfers are based solely on space availability, student attendance, behavior, and grades.

Also, it is recommended that students NOT purchase uniform/equipment or materials related to the new school’s team or program prior to being notified that their transfer has been approved. Making this purchase is at your own risk, as neither the school nor the team nor program will be responsible for reimbursement if your student’s transfer is denied.
