Reclassification Criteria

Progression Timeline

Reclassification is the process by which school districts determine if English learner students have acquired sufficient proficiency in English to perform successfully in core academic subjects without English Language Development (ELD) support.  The reclassification process and criteria are based upon guidelines approved by the California Department of Education (CDE)  and the State Board of Education (SBE).  RUSD utilizes this progression timeline to guide teachers and administrators in monitoring the language development of our English learner students.  Our goal is to reclassify English learner students before, or by, their 6th year in a U.S. school.

Students who meet the following criteria will be considered candidates for reclassification:

1. English Language Proficiency Assessment

1. ELPAC Overall Level of 4
