Welcome to a new school year! My name is Samantha Herlihy. I have been teaching at Arroyo Verde in the SDC class since 2015. I started working with students with special needs in 2007. In that time, I have worked with students from Kindergarten to Seniors in high school from multiple backgrounds and disablilites. Working with students with special needs is my passion!
It is important for me to create a learning environment that students feel safe in; to learn and grow in a way that works best for them. Getting students to engage in the acadmics they are learning is very important to me as a teacher. We do a lot of hands on learning with the assistance of visuals, and repetition. In my room, student's learn that it is okay to make mistakes because that is a part of how we learn, as well as, how to persevere when academics start to feel like a challenge.
My college is United States Military Academy West Point. Our mascot is the mule, which has been used in the Army for generations. Our school colors are black and gold. USMA is a leader in academics, research, and most importantly military success.
