From Your PTA President

Hi Mariposa families!! My name is Briana Flanigan and I will be serving as your new PTA president.  My husband, Danny, and I have three children: Connor, Ryleigh, and Tatum.  Our oldest, Connor, will be in 5th grade, Ryleigh is going into 4th grade, and our youngest, Tatum, is in pre-school.  By being involved at Mariposa I have been able to see just how much our children, teachers, school, and families need the PTA. There are so many great things that are provided because of our incredible PTA and I am excited to be a part of it.  My family is blessed to call Mariposa our kids’ school and our home away from home.

The exceptional reputation of Mariposa is strengthened by volunteerism, tradition, and exciting events sponsored by the PTA.  One of the best ways to get involved is to volunteer at the school, either in your child’s classroom helping their teacher where you will see the joy on your child’s face as you enter their classroom, volunteering to help with one of our multitude of fun events, or helping with one of the many behind the scenes jobs that are done to ensure our kids have the best year ever. There really are many different ways to maintain the remarkable reputation of Mariposa and we welcome new faces and ideas.  We know that your time is precious, so however you can help is very appreciated.

Make sure to check out our website, keep an eye out for flyers, and download the PeachJar app so you never miss a thing.  The beginning of the school year can be a little crazy, make sure to keep an eye out for information on our annual membership drive, your child’s yearbook order for the year, and the Reflections contest.  Make sure to mark your calendar for our annual Fall Festival on October 19th. This is a great time to enjoy games with your kids and even do some fun bidding at our Silent Auction. In the Spring, we will have our annual A-thon, which the kids love to attend.  The money from all of our fundraisers along with your help make such an impactful difference at Mariposa Elementary.

I encourage you to join us for a PTA meeting or two.  Our meetings are typically held one Thursday a month at 1:00 pm.  This year, we will switch it up a bit and be holding one of our monthly meetings on a Thursday evening in January.  If your schedule doesn’t allow you to make our normal afternoon time, please join us for this special PTA meeting intended just for you.  Any and all of our meetings are great opportunities to hear what all of our PTA committees are working on.  While coming to meetings is not mandatory to being on the PTA, it is a great place to have a voice at our school and get involved.  We are a fun group of parents who share the same goal: bettering the lives of our children and their community. Come join us!

I am honestly excited for this new school year.  My husband and I are thankful to have our children at a school with teachers and staff who love them and are dedicated to their education, safety, and well-being. I’m looking forward to coming together with you and the other families of Mariposa to make this year one of the best in Mariposa history.

I am open to any questions and/or suggestions and look forward to seeing you on campus.

    Briana Flanigan
