RUSD receives recognition from UC Davis C-STEM Center

    2020 C-STEM Award Recipients

Redlands, Calif. – The UC Davis C-STEM Center has named Redlands Unified School District Superintendent Mauricio Arellano their inaugural “C-STEM Superintendent of the Year.”

“It is both humbling and rewarding to be recognized in this way, especially since I really struggled with Math as a child,” said Superintendent Arellano. “We have brave, brilliant teachers and administrators who have used C-STEM, to reach and teach our students and get them excited about learning Math through the use of robotics. My hat is really off to them.”

STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) and Innovation Coordinator Deepika Srivastava was recognized as C-STEM Administrator of the Year. Srivastava has been instrumental in coordinating, training and implementing C-STEM across the District.

Clement Middle School Teacher Joshua Barnor was named C-STEM Teacher of the Year. Students in his class used C-STEM concepts to demonstrate their knowledge using Linkbots. Barnor’s recognition comes on the heels of last year’s C-STEM Teacher of the Year – Citrus Valley High School teacher Allen Thoe.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, I am so proud of Superintendent Arellano and our stellar staff members who were also recognized at the 10th annual UC Davis C-STEM Center conference by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond,” said RUSD Board President Patty Holohan. “They are leading the way with innovation and helping our students learn Mathematics while learning.”

    Press Release --- Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 4:50 p.m.

REDLANDS, Calif. – Earlier today, Superintendents representing school districts throughout San Bernardino County engaged in a conference call with County Superintendent of Schools Ted Alejandre and representatives from the San Bernardino County Department of Health.

Based on the latest information and data related to the COVID-19 pandemic and in the best interest of student, staff and community and their health and safety, a unanimous decision was made to close schools across the entire county through Friday, May 1. As we get closer to May 1, a collective analysis will be made to determine if it is safe to return to school or to continue to extend school closures.

The Board of Education formally took action this evening to officially extend school closures as mentioned above.

“This is one of the most difficult things we’ve ever had to do as a school district,” said Board President Patty Holohan. “I feel that we are doing the right thing for our students, our families, our teachers and our staff. My heart goes out to them.”

As per the communication you received on Wednesday, March 18, the District will provide meals for children, beginning March 30, throughout the duration of the closure. Further, we will maintain and continuously update online enrichment materials which will be found on our website beginning Monday, March 30.
