Attendance and Non-Classroom Participation Rules
-
A student will be marked absent by each teacher at any time he/she is not present in his/her scheduled class.
When a student returns following an absence, the Attendance Office must be notified within 48 hours (not including weekends or holidays) by means of a parent/guardian note or telephone call stating the reason for the absence. Students may turn in notes to the Attendance Office before school, during lunch, or after school.
Failure to clear an absence with a legitimate reason within 48 hours will result in a truancy being marked on the student's attendance record. Using forged notes or making unauthorized telephone calls to clear absences will be cause for disciplinary action and possible suspension from school.
Education Code 46012
Verification of absences — students 18 years of age and over: For purposes of any procedure for verification of absences from school, a student 18 years of age or over, with respect to his own absences from school, shall have all the responsibilities and powers which, in the case of a minor, would be charged to the parent, guardian, or other person having charge or control of the minor. The Attendance Office requires a note of approval from the parent/guardian to allow their 18 year old student to be responsible for their own verification of absences.
