• Dear Arroyo Verde Family,

As Principal of Arroyo Verde Elementary, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year at Arroyo. We are all excited to see students after the summer break. It is our mission to help every child feel welcomed, connected and part of the Arroyo Aztec community. Additionally, we strive to challenge each student to grow in his or her academic abilities and to be striving to be college and career ready for middle school. At Arroyo the dedicated teachers spend hours planning and creating classroom lessons to engage our students in learning. Our teachers utilize research-based best practices and analyze academic data to determine current skill levels and to set goals for growth and improvement. We believe all students are capable of learning given the right academic support.

As we head into the 2022-23 school year we have some new faces on campus. We are fortunate to have Mrs. Laurie Jenkins returning as our full time Assistant Principal. Mrs. Jenkins joined our team in April of last school year and has been a positive addition to our school. Ms. Jacqulein Marquez also joined us last April as our new office manager. Mrs. Vanegas will be moving out of intervention into the classroom this year as she takes over the spot for Mrs. Romo who will be extending her family leave to tend to her daughter who was born last January.  New to our team is Ms. Hough who will be taking over our K-2 Special Day Class as Mrs. Herlihy has taken on a new role within our Special Education Department. Ms. Apan who will be supporting students in the health office and Ms.Yang as school nurse for the East Highlands area.

We hope you will find our website helpful and informative. All of the information we send out via our AERIES communication platform, Parent Square. This app based system sends emails and text messages immediately and helps to keep you up to date with the happenings at our school. Each morning, Dr. Lenertz sends out a video announcement to students that highlights, reminders, events and provides a spotlight on historical figures. The link to these videos can be found on our website. Additionally, we have a Twitter account (@ArroyoVerdeRUSD) that we will use to send out updates and quick announcements of the daily happenings at our school.

There are many ways for parents to get involved at Arroyo. Volunteering in classrooms is one way to make a direct impact on students while supporting teachers. At Arroyo Verde we are fortunate to have a strong and dedicated PTA who supports our students and staff. Our PTA provides funding for field trips, classroom supplies, campus improvements, and assemblies just to name a few. I encourage each and every one to join the PTA and support their events. We also have various committees for parent input such as School Site Council (SSC), English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) and an African American Parent Advisory Committee (AAPAC). As a member of one of our committees you will work directly with staff to discuss and help implement programs that directly impact student learning.

I am honored to serve as the Principal at Arroyo Verde Elementary. It is truly a privilege to be part of a community where parents, staff and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth. Once again welcome back! Let’s make it another great year at Arroyo together!

    Sincerely,

    Michele Lenertz, Ed.D., Principal
