Principal's Corner

  • Dear Blue Jay families,

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year!

Since joining Bryn Mawr in 2013 I have been so very fortunate to be part of an amazing school and staff dedicated to growing our students academically, emotionally, and socially.  While we have seen changes in education in recent years I am happy to say the strong partnership with our students, parents, and community members has remained a constant.  It is the basis on which we build our success, and on which we continue to grow together as a community of learners.  This formula for success helped us achieve the designation of California Distinguished School in 2018, and I know even greater things are in store for our Blue Jay community!

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year will present itself with many challenges.  Distance Learning this year has more expectations and rigor than in the spring.  There are more resources and time for students to be engaged in online learning.  While these challenges at times may result in frustration, please know the staff is committed to working through whatever obstacles may come up.  The social, emotional, AND academic growth of our students is paramount, and one we know may take some extra time and patience to achieve.  Rest assured, we are always thinking about WIN-WIN resolutions to any challenges, especially as we work in the Distance Learning environment.

As our normal school year was unfortunately impacted by the pandemic at the end of 2019-20, we will continue the exciting foundational "Year 1" work of creating our future leaders through the "Leader In Me" system.  Based on the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People," our entire staff received training to build leadership capacity in students, and to "see the genius" in every child.  We look forward to creating a culture where students understand that change and leadership begins with each one of them, that they are empowered to achieve all their "Wildly Important Goals," and that they will leave Bryn Mawr after 5th grade with "life-ready" skills for their success.

I look forward to another great year of working to see students grow in their wisdom and kindness toward others, and become prepared to take the next steps towards their futures filled with great potential and limitless possibilities.  I am so proud of each one of our Blue Jays, and believe greatly in their being able to go forward to impact our world in positive ways.

If you have any questions or needs, please feel free to contact me at school.  I look forward to seeing you and all our students back on campus soon.

    Sincerely,

    Rick Aleksak, Principal
